
Caide is a veterinarian from North Carolina, USA pursuing a PhD at the University of Calgary. He earned his DVM in 2019 at NC State University and completed his MPVM at UC Davis in 2022. He practiced small and exotic companion animal medicine and shelter medicine in Missoula, MT, USA prior to returning to academic pursuits. His PhD thesis work is focused on improving our understanding of the epidemiology of the “Arctic clone” strain of Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae that has been associated with mass mortality events of muskoxen in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago in order to inform management and conservation efforts. Caide is interested in infectious disease mitigation and control among free-ranging wildlife populations. He hopes to work in the public and/or non-profit sectors as a wildlife veterinarian after completing his current studies.
