In Memory of Maya Bhatia
The ArcticNet team would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Maya Bhatia, who passed away on August 16th while conducting field work in the High Arctic near Aujuittuq (Grise Fiord), Nunavut. This tragic loss is felt widely and deeply throughout the Arctic science community, as Maya’s career allowed her to travel across the world and touch the lives of so many along the way.
Maya’s research explored carbon and nutrient dynamics, and the role of microbial communities in watersheds. Beyond publishing, Maya leaves an important impact in the field of Arctic science through community outreach. By creating videos of her research group’s work, Maya strived to share and connect with communities in which she and her research group worked. A fundraiser has been set up to assist with the cost of travel for Maya’s family to Aujuittuq. You can also learn more about Maya’s life and legacy on this website. As an accomplished member of the ArcticNet community, we would like to honor Maya’s research legacy by highlighting some of her work below.
