Arctic Change 2020

Erica.Baird2025-07-16T15:46:28-04:00

2020 was a year like no other for Arctic research, and ArcticNet’s Arctic Change conference was no exception. Held every three years in different Canadian locations, the international conference shifted to a virtual setting with the global COVID-19 pandemic, with 1600 attendees tuning in online from across Canada and around the world. This year included 327 Northern participants, the most representative Arctic Change conference yet. The heart of any conference is the people, and the connections participants make with each other. Going virtual meant giving up the in-person visits, but not the interactions or networking opportunities. Participants watched more than...

Joint Funding Initiative with SAGES

Erica.Baird2025-07-16T15:46:28-04:00

In early 2024, ArcticNet and the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society (SAGES) partnered to launch a joint fund to foster international collaborative work between both ArcticNet and SAGES colleagues. The fund supports research expenses such as field work, equipment, workshops, and more. Two ArcticNet researchers were able to benefit from the joint-initiative. First, Dr. Luke Copland, University of Ottawa (ArcticNet), will collaborate with Dr. Anna Crawford, University of Stirling (SAGES), to have a more comprehensive understanding of Arctic ice hazard populations and their risks to shipping. Dr. Copland has focused on the calving and drift of “conventional” icebergs from glaciers...
