ArcticNet and the Canadian Mountain Network sign MoU

ArcticNet is pleased to announce this partnership of many to further Arctic science: We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Canadian Mountain Network. This MoU between ArcticNet and CMN will promote Indigenous leadership and self-determination in northern research and culture while supporting the exchange of knowledge and fostering the creation of synergies in northern research between researchers, institutions, communities, governments, and the private sector.

The MoU was signed on August 30th, 2022.

“ArcticNet and CMN commit to supporting the advancement of knowledge generation across all ways of knowing. With this MOU, we will continue to support self-determined Indigenous research, to bridge knowledge systems, and to train the next generation of northern research experts. Our enhanced collaboration will reduce redundancies, optimize resources, and unleash Indigenous capacity” – Dr. Christine Barnard, ArcticNet Executive Director

“Doing more, and doing better, together to advance and enable Reconciliation through Research is the fundamental underpinning of the new relationship between CMN and ArcticNet. Enabling First Nations, Métis and Inuit led research in Canada, together, focusing on our strengths and leveraging our resources where possible, will improve our collective research service to Canadians.”  – Dr. Monique Dubé, Canadian Mountain Network Executive Director

About the Canadian Mountain Network

The Canadian Mountain Network (CMN) is the country’s first formal research organization dedicated to advancing understanding of mountain systems, while supporting innovation in place-based Indigenous-led and co-led research approaches through the braiding of Indigenous and Western Knowledges. CMN was one of the first Networks of Centres of Excellence to directly fund Indigenous organizations to lead research focused on understanding and monitoring environmental change to inform conservation, restoration, adaptation and well-being.
