Pierre Bilodeau

Dr. Pierre Bilodeau is President and CEO of ArcticNet, where he leads the transformation of Canada’s national Arctic research network into a sustainable, independent non-profit organization. A strong advocate of inclusive research and community-led initiatives, he is committed to strengthening partnerships with Inuit and other Indigenous communities, expanding national and international collaborations, and advancing the mobilization of knowledge to address climate change, northern socio-economic transformation, and Arctic sovereignty. 

Prior to joining ArcticNet, Pierre held executive leadership positions across Canada’s science and innovation ecosystem. At the Standards Council of Canada, he served as Vice President of Standardization Services and Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement, where he worked to align national standardization strategies with the government’s economic, trade, and regulatory priorities. Earlier in his career, Pierre contributed to science diplomacy and international collaboration as Chief Operating Officer and Vice President at International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada and provided strategic leadership in plant health and bio-industries with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. 

Pierre began his career in applied research, with scientific and leadership roles at Medicago, the Alberta Research Council, and as a postdoctoral fellow at CSIRO in Australia. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Université Laval and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Canada Foundation for Innovation. 

Pierre holds a PhD in plant science from the Australian National University. He completed postdoctoral research at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia and holds both undergraduate and master’s degrees in biochemistry from Université Laval. 

Fluent in both French and English, Pierre has a deep interest in supporting interdisciplinary research that empowers northern communities and fosters a resilient Arctic future.

Dr Pierre Bilodeau est président-directeur général d’ArcticNet, où il dirige la transformation du réseau national de recherche arctique du Canada en un organisme indépendant, durable et à but non lucratif. Fervent défenseur de la recherche inclusive et des initiatives dirigées par les communautés, il a un engagement profond envers le renforcement des partenariats avec les communautés inuites et autochtones, l’élargissement des collaborations nationales et internationales, ainsi que l’avancement de la mobilisation des connaissances pour relever les défis liés aux changements climatiques, à la transformation socioéconomique du Nord et à la souveraineté dans l’Arctique. 

Avant de se joindre à ArcticNet, Pierre a occupé plusieurs postes de direction dans l’écosystème canadien de la science et de l’innovation. Au Conseil canadien des normes, il a agi à titre de vice-président aux services de normalisation et à la stratégie et mobilisation des parties prenantes, veillant à arrimer les stratégies nationales de normalisation aux priorités économiques, commerciales et réglementaires du gouvernement. Plus tôt dans sa carrière, il a contribué à la diplomatie scientifique et à la collaboration internationale comme chef de l’exploitation et vice-président de Partenariats internationaux en science et technologie Canada. Il a également exercé un leadership stratégique dans les domaines de la santé des végétaux et des bio-industries à l’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments et au Conseil de recherches en sciences naturelles et en génie du Canada. 

Pierre a amorcé sa carrière en recherche appliquée, occupant des rôles scientifiques et de direction chez Medicago, au Conseil de recherches de l’Alberta, ainsi qu’en tant que boursier postdoctoral au CSIRO, en Australie. Il a aussi été professeur associé à l’Université Laval et siège actuellement au conseil d’administration de la Fondation canadienne pour l’innovation. 

Pierre est titulaire d’un doctorat en sciences végétales de l’Australian National University. Il a effectué des recherches postdoctorales au Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) en Australie, et détient également un baccalauréat et une maîtrise en biochimie de l’Université Laval. 

Parfaitement bilingue, Pierre nourrit un vif intérêt pour la recherche interdisciplinaire qui donne une voix aux communautés nordiques et qui contribue à bâtir un futur résilient pour l’arctique.
