Arctic Change 2014
The international Arctic Change 2014 conference, held from 08 to 12 December 2014 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, was a tremendous success.
With over 1300 participants, Arctic Change 2014 proved to be a dynamic international networking event, providing an excellent opportunity for arctic researchers, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, northern community representatives, government and industry to meet face to face to address the numerous environmental, social, economical and political challenges and opportunities that are emerging from climate change and modernization in the Arctic.
More than 430 oral presentations and 375 scientific posters from all fields of Arctic research were presented during the meeting, and 30 workshops and side events were held in conjunction with the conference, making it one of the largest trans-sectoral international Arctic research conferences ever held in Canada.
As evidence of a promising future for Arctic research, 635 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, researchers and stakeholders attended the ninth ArcticNet Student Day, with 10 students awarded prizes for the excellence of their posters and research.
The 2014 Arctic Inspiration Prize Awards Ceremony, hosted by Peter Mansbridge, highlighted the creative and inspirational knowledge to action plans that are helping to transform life in Canada’s North. In addition, the first ever Inuit Recognition Award was presented at the conference, recognizing the critical importance of Inuit involvement in Arctic research.
The ArcticNet Board of Directors, Research Management Committee and Administrative Centre would like to thank the International Organizing Committee as well as all the participants, partners, sponsors and exhibitors for their contribution in making the Arctic Change 2014 conference such a great success.
