ArcticNet and Nordic Energy Research sign Letter of Commitment

ArcticNet is pleased to announce this partnership of many to further Arctic science: We have signed a Letter of Commitment with Nordic Energy Research. This agreement between ArcticNet and Nordic Energy Research will promote Canadian participation and engagement in work with green energy transitions for islands and isolated areas together with the Nordic countries. This includes attending events, delegating experts, and being involved in, or promoting, other activities of common interest, such as the conduction of studies.

For example, ArcticNet and Nordic Energy Research are collaborating on multiple panels across various conferences in 2024, such as the Åland Seminar for the Net Zero Islands Network and ArcticNet’s 2024 Arctic Change conference. The panels will feature both Nordic and Canadian participants.

The Letter of Commitment was signed on March 18th, 2024.

“ArcticNet and Nordic Energy Research are committed to partnering with international collaborators to tackle Arctic issues with global impacts, such as climate change, and to share this knowledge with Nordic countries. This Letter of Agreement will allow our organizations to advance knowledge sharing through joint panels on innovations in sustainable energy research for northern and remote regions, connecting our researchers, and much more. We are confident that our cooperative efforts will have long-lasting impacts, and we look forward to working closely with Nordic Energy Research on many upcoming initiatives.” – Dr. Christine Barnard, ArcticNet Executive Director

“The Nordic region covers all the countries in the Northern hemisphere between the border of Canada in the west to the Russian border in the east. Since much of the Nordic territory, both on land and at sea, falls within the Arctic Circle, Nordic Energy Research is strongly involved in issues concerning this unique, harsh, and vulnerable area. Therefore, we are very delighted with our close partnership with ArcticNet, with whom we share a common vision of contributing to a sustainable future in the Arctic through knowledge sharing and policy development. Our cooperation can foster impactful efforts in developing green and affordable energy for islands and isolated areas in the Nordic hemisphere.” – Dr. Klaus Skytte, CEO of Nordic Energy Research.

About Nordic Energy Research

Nordic Energy Research is the platform for cooperative energy research and policy development under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers. Nordic Energy Research has a unique strength in that our governance structure is closely connected to both the national political systems of the five Nordic countries as well as the intergovernmental Nordic system. Our board and other committees and project steering groups consist not only of representatives from national funding agencies, but also from national energy authorities, ministries and the Nordic Council of Ministers secretariat. This creates a constant interaction between research strategies, results and key issues on the political agenda. We manage a number of projects and facilitate Ministerial working groups that provide input to energy technology policymaking in the Nordic region.
