Digvir Jayas
President and Vice-Chancellor / Président et vice-chancelierDr. Digvir S. Jayas is President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lethbridge. Born and raised in India, he holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pant Nagar, India, and went on to complete a graduate degree and PhD in agricultural engineering at the Universities of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, respectively. Prior to his current role, he began teaching at the University of Manitoba in 1985, eventually ascending to the position of Vice-President (Research and International), which he held for 11 years.
An internationally recognized expert in grain storage and digital imaging in the agri-food sector, Dr. Jayas has authored over 1,000 technical publications and led collaborations worldwide to improve grain preservation systems. He was a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Stored-Grain Ecosystems and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Jayas has received awards from several organizations in recognition of his research and professional contributions. He has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Member of the Order of Manitoba, and is an inductee of both the Manitoba and Canadian Agricultural Halls of Fame.
